A tooth has FINALLY been sited. It is only one tooth in one girl but after the gallons of drool, it is good to get the theething show on the road.
It is really wee, but an unmistakable (and surprisingly sharp!) little white cap is advancing on Sidney’s gums with plans of wreaking havoc. Honestly, she’s been a trooper so far and it does not seem to bother her too much. Nevertheless, I have to admit I think I’m going to miss her big, silly toothless grin. After all, with a little luck and continued dental coverage, she may never be toothless again.
She, in particular, has a broad smile that is easily earned and dares you not to smile in return. I am certain that when all her pearlies arrive, you’ll be able to see 128 of them.
I tried to get a photo of her new ivory but this was the best I could do without blinding my child with the flash. You can see the begininngs of a tooth....but have to squint a little.
It is funny how we look forward to milestones but once they start to arrive, we quickly realize how our children's baby-hood is running at lightning speed in the opposite direction. I am told and starting to believe that the days and nights may sometimes feel long but the years are short.
I occasionally catch myself staring at them with a desperately bad memory of how small they were when we first held them nearly 9 months ago. How could these little creatures of the earth have been so tiny and floppy? And now, they are mobile people with personalities and soon to be teeth!
Lest this update be only about teeth, Aria has fallen deeply in love. It is an endearingly sweet affection that came about suddenly; a profound adoration for her little doll. When coupled with the soothing effects of her thumb in her mouth, she exudes pure bliss-isty bliss. It is the kind of unencumbered happiness that I wish could be bottled up and keep in the pockets of anyone in need of comfort. The comforts found throughout life never seem to quite reach the pinnacle of a childhood object.
Thankfully, we have 3 identicles of this particular doll as it was a gift for each of our girls. No matter, they have now all been earmarked for the sole use by their chief snuggler in charge. Now, we have to find a fitting name for her doll(s) and see if she can tell them apart.
Not to be left out of this update, Vivian continues to find joy in her new found ability of applause. (She is SOOOO my daughter!)
Take a look at this video where she shows off some of her skill after a brief introductory speech.
Finally, we are in the final week leading up to the children’s baptism celebration, next Saturday afternoon. Our very enthusiastic Priest told me yesterday that he had a colleague just return from Israel and as luck would have it, the river Jordon will be joining the waters of Delhi'sLotus Temple to baptize our children.
We are really looking forward to this event and just hoping Sidney - our only gal who puts her stomach in reverse when excited - doesn't add to the waters of the world in the font.
Oh, one other video. We made this this afternoon when the girls and I were all playing together in their corral and Sidney was the Sherpa on her way up Mount Daddy! Enjoy!

I think that is so cool.
Our Indian heritage will be standing proud next week as we incorporate elements from the mass of the Church of India (Anglican arm in India) as well as traditions from home. Our church will be adorned with more than 100 silk scarves from India and a sitar/tabla duo who promises to deliver a very unique version of Amazing Grace mixed with some favorite musical theatre fare.
We are really looking forward to this event and just hoping Sidney - our only gal who puts her stomach in reverse when excited - doesn't add to the waters of the world in the font.
I wish that our extended 'family' - especially those who have shared a path through India - could be with us next week. If anyone is in the NYC/NJ area and would like to attend, shoot me an email and I’ll send you the details. We have always felt strongly that All Are Welcome when it comes to our church...and it will never be more true for us than next Saturday.

If I wasn't on the complete opposite of the US of A, I would sooooo be there for your wonderful weekend ahead!
ReplyDeleteI find great joy in the privilege of watching your girls grow---if only in photos and video and your wonderful writing---and am thankful that you share them with us!
Wishing we could meet in person,
Elizabeth
Bravo on the singing!

Very talented!!!
That is a really great post. It is amazing to have been able to watch them morph from sleeping machines to these little girls with distinct personalities. But best of all is not one of them denies anyone a sweet smile.
ReplyDeleteI love Sherpa Sidney :)
Your voice is so wonderful but best of all is your laughter. Your church will rock to it's core next weekend. Enjoy all of it for it goes all too quickly.
ReplyDeletethis is so cool. julia just lost her first baby tooth this week. it was more of a traumatic experience for me than for her. my baby is growing up. time flies so fast. i can't help but remember when she was a little baby in my arms or better yet, when we heard the first heartbeat. hold the girls close, play a lot, they grow way to fast. wish i could come to the mass, it's going to be so fantastic, i know you will keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteThis Baptism is so going Broadway. Love it!
ReplyDeleteK
loving the posts :) love the clapping, the dollies and the tooth ... we are sorry we can't make it to the baptism but are sending our love and thoughts to you and the girls, and will be there in spirit...
ReplyDeletelove love love...
oh my goodness, even before I read your invitation I was trying to figure out how I could get across the country to your family baptism. What an amazing, emotional, COLORFUL time that will be -- bet your church will be talking about it for years to come.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is true, the years go quickly. Seems like only moments ago we were celebrating first teeth, and now we can't imagine him without his full set of pearly whites (and our arms without a set of bite marks!)
I feel among the priviledged to be able to attend - thanks for the sneak preview - can't wait!!!
